SCOTT ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP ANNOUNCES THE SUCCESSFFUL CONCLUSION OF THE HIGH SCHOOL E-WASTE CHALLENGE

KINGSTON, ONTARIO, June 8, 2009

The Scott Environmental Group (SEG) High School E- Waste Challenge is designed to reduce disposal by landfill or incineration of electronic waste. On Saturday June 6th at the Invista Centre, Scott Environmental Group in partnership with the City of Kingston, Chorus Entertainment and Kingston area high schools accumulated over 100 metric tones of e- waste. Charlie Mignault, Director of Strategic Development commented, “The event met all our objectives as we work towards a zero waste future. With the help of our High Schools and the broader community, we are working with the Ministry of Environment’s Waste Electronic and Electrical (WEEE) program to achieve the goal of diverting 75,000 tones of e-waste from landfills in the first year. Mignault continued, “SEG has a long and proud history of giving back to the community we live and serve in; this initiative is part of our ongoing progress which demonstrates our commitment to remaining a regional leader in environmental sustainability.” The high schools responded with enthusiasm to the event – no school more so than Bayridge Secondary School who captured the first place prize of $1000.00. This prize coupled with their collection items guaranteed Bayridge a cheque in the amount of $2385 from SEG president and CEO George Scott.
