SCOTT ENVIRONMENTAL GROUP ANNOUNCES THE SUCCESSFFUL CONCLUSION OF THE LOYALIST TOWNSHIP E-WASTE DROP OFF DAY

KINGSTON, ONTARIO, MAY 4, 2009 –
As Earth Week celebrations come to an end, the Scott Environmental Group is proud to announce that in joining forces with Loyalist Township and the Ontario Electronics Stewardship (OES) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Program the Loyalist township E- Waste Day held Saturday May 2nd was an absolute success. We, together as a community, diverted 37,000kgs of waste from landfill. The e- waste day attracted over 2500 participants who dropped off TVs, computers, printers, faxes and laptops. None of this success would have been possible is not for our community media partners. To the many media outlets who broadcast the event and covered it with enthusiasm and passion thank you very much for your concern and commitment to the environment and our community. Aligned with the provincial Ministry of Environment, we are well on our way to diverting an additional 160,000 tonnes of electronic waste, into reuse and recycling solutions over the next 5 years. The WEEE program maps out a plan to divert 17,000 tonnes of e-waste in the first year rising to 75,000 tonnes annually (60 per cent of available material) in year five. Over the first five years, the target is to divert 161,000 tonnes.

"SEG has a long and proud history of giving back to the community we serve," said Charlie Mignault, Director of Strategic. This initiative is part of our ongoing progress which demonstrates our commitment to remaining the regional leader in environmental sustainability."

As an organization we are already planning a new e – waste initiative in early June. We look forward to continuing these successful events, creating a culture of sustainability with employees, customers and working with community organizations in developing solutions to environmental challenges.
